Prioritizing You In A Giving Season

Updated: Jul 11, 2023

What do you do when you want to make yourself a priority, but have no idea how to do that with everything else you have to take care of?

I used to think making myself the #1 priority meant I had to do it the same way, all the time, under any and all circumstances. When that didn't happen, I experienced a sense of failure and exhaustion from clawing my way to the top of my own list. I eventually realized that in some seasons it is more challenging than others to hold my first place title. For example, after the birth of a baby, or when caring for a loved one, or even when raising a child as a single parent. Sometimes its 'giving' season.

The good news is seasons don't last forever, and even in a long one, there are small ways in which you can still show up for yourself. You may just have to do a little pivoting here and there.

Know the areas where you simply cannot compromise at all or you will go down for the count. ls it in the area of nutrition, exercise, managing stress levels, getting adequate rest, social interactions, financial well-being, or something else?

Commit to taking one small step, every day, to making you a priority in that area. If it is fitness and all you can do is a 10 minute walk vs the hour run that you are used to, do it! If social interaction is how you thrive, squeeze in a meet up with a friend even if you only have time for a hug.

Today I promise to make me the #1 priority is more than possible. Small step number 4 that #youcanstarttoday
